South Africa’s popular BOS brand ready-to-drink rooibos tea will soon be distributed across the United States. Headquartered in Cape Town, the canned rooibos teas currently have limited distribution in Southern California. The teas’ flavors range from classic to creative and include: Lemon, Peach and Berry, Lime & Ginger and Green Rooibos & Yuzu. “The name BOS has a double meaning in South Africa. It’s derived from the word rooibos (red bush)—the key ingredient in our product. It’s also slang that means ‘crazy—in a fun way,’” Marie van Niekerk, chief marketing officer of BOS Brands, said via press release. “We use our name as a license to be adventurous in our actions, to take risks, encourage self-expression and above all to have fun! BOS is not only an iced tea; it’s also an experience and a unique way of looking at life.” BOS’ USDA Certified Organic rooibos is grown in Klipopmekaar, a private nature reserve nestled in South Africa’s Cederberg mountains. The rooibos is hand-harvested and dried outside in the African sun. For every 2,000 cans of tea sold, BOS plants and cares for one tree. So far, the company has planted more than 20,000 trees in underprivileged regions of South Africa.
