Lipton Tea is collaborating with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. to introduce a new line of K-Cups to be used in the Keurig brewing system for both hot and iced teas. The single-service K-Cups allow consumer to brew small quantities of tea and coffee at one time with disposable pre-portioned packs.
"It's natural to think of Keurig as being synonymous with coffee, but now consumers are also turning to their Keurig brewers for the freshest tasting hot and iced teas," says Alfie Vivian, VP Refreshments, Unilever US. "By partnering with GMCR, we're able to share the delicious taste of Lipton teas in the innovative K-Cup pack format."
Lipton’s move to package tea products in K-Cups comes months after Starbucks began distributing Teavana and Seattle’s Best Coffee products in K-Cups. This simple and quick method of brewing tea and coffee is becoming commonplace, with Kuerig machines available in many hotels, hospitals, office break rooms, and other places.
Currently, Lipton is offering three different tea varieties in K-Cups: green tea, black tea, and a sweet tea.
"Lipton K-Cup packs are a new and different way to enjoy fresh brewed tea blends, with the ease and convenience of a Keurig K-Cup brewer," adds Vivian. "We are so excited to bring Lipton's most aromatic tea creations to the Keurig Brewed line-up."
Sold in 10-count, 16-count, and 22-count boxes beginning July 2013, Lipton K-Cups can be purchased at grocery, mass, and drug retailers nationwide as well as online. Pricing is at the discretion of each individual retailer.
