Republic of Tea Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

NOVATO, Calif.

The Republic of Tea this year celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its 1992 charter to start a tea revolution.

"We would like to THANK our loyal Citizens for joining us on this ongoing journey of discovering joy and contentment through the Sip by Sip life," says Ron Rubin, Minister of Tea and Chief Executive Officer, The Republic of Tea.

Launched in 1992 by the creators of Banana Republic, Ron Rubin, an entrepreneur committed to expanding its mission, purchased the 22-month-old company in 1994. He subsequently guided the Novato, Calif.-based brand into the leading purveyor of more than 250 premium teas and herbs and tea-inspired products.

To commemorate the occasion, Republic of Tea has created two new offerings: Celebration Tea, a blend of premium high-grown, Ceylon black tea leaves from the Tommagong Estate in Sri Lanka, full tea blossoms lending a light herbal note, sweet white wine grapes from the Orange River Vineyard in South Africa, and infused with the essence of champagne; and Twenty Herbs, a festive and unique blend of 20 herbs and spices. This Tea of Many Virtues is full-bodied, with a floral greeting of citrus and spice top notes enhanced by a minty, sweet, lingering finish. This caffeine-free, celebration blend of herbs and spices is a cup of jubilation.

The company is known for its packaging innovations, beginning with an air-tight tin with premium teas and herbal infusions containing the brand's award-winning signature round, natural, unbleached tea bags which are free of unnecessary envelopes, strings, tags or staples. The line now includes Superfruit Teas, Traveler's Tea Tins, Be Well Red Teas, 100-Percent White Teas, Stir Fry Tea Oil, sip ware and a set of varietal glass-bottled iced teas crafted exclusively for fine restaurants and hotels.

Nearly all of The Republic of Tea's full-leaf and bagged teas are Certified Gluten-Free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO). A socially responsible business, The Republic of Tea is dedicated to sharing its prosperity by developing products to support organizations that make a difference.

The company contributes a portion of sales from the Sip for the Cure Line to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Blueberry Green Tea to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Decaf Strawberry Cherry to the Bay Area's Sunny Hills Services and Little Citizens' Herb Teas to Room to Read. The Republic of Tea is also a member of the international Ethical Tea Partnership and supports Rainforest Alliance.
