America’s third largest burger chain announced it will begin serving fresh-brewed organic and Fair Trade Certified Honest Tea.
"This marks a major milestone on our journey to bring Fair Trade Certified and organic products to people across the nation. We worked closely with the Wendy's team to create a unique tea that would pair well with many of their menu items," said Honest Tea co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman.
Honest Tropical Green Tea will be available this month at Wendy’s restaurants nationally.
"Our partnership with Honest Tea reinforces our shared commitment to innovation and high-quality, premium ingredients to meet the evolving tastes and preferences of our customers,” said Brandon Solano, Wendy's chief marketing officer.
The green tea, exclusive to Wendy’s, is a proprietary blend of Fair Trade Certified, organic green tea leaves with hints of mango and pineapple flavors, and is sweetened with Fair Trade Certified organic cane sugar. The iced tea will be freshly brewed daily in each participating Wendy's restaurant. It is available in small, medium and large sizes with a recommended price of $1.69, $2.29 and $2.69.
USA Today reported that “While the move may seem insignificant, it's huge for the organic food movement — taking organic beyond the world of specialty and natural foods restaurants and into the absolute mainstream of fast-food America.
Laura Batcha, CEO and executive director of the Organic Trade Association, to the newspaper “Now, it will be easier for consumers to enjoy the benefits of organic. Good news for organic and consumers."
