Each of these five teas contains ingredients traditionally used for supporting the immune system. Though none of these teas can be considered a “cure all” the healthy blends contribute to wellness.
Cold Buster with Tulsi
The Tea Spot’s Cold Buster with Tulsi blend “is based on a recipe for a natural cold cure from Europe” states the company’s website. The blend consists of a rooibos tea base with lemon and orange peel, hibiscus and rose hips, as well as Tulsi, which has been used in ayurvedic medicine for controlling coughs and bringing down fever. This blend is high in vitamin C, whose benefits “may include protection against immune system deficiencies” according to WebMD. Cold Buster with Tulsi also contains a touch of valerian root, which promotes restful sleep.
Echinacea Plus® Elderberry
Traditional Medicinals Echinacea Plus Elderberry is named after its two main ingredients that Native Americans have traditionally used for immune-system stimulation. Echinacea, also knows as “coneflower” is indigenous to North America and has been used in herbal medicine in Europe and the United States. “The key to echinacea’s benefits lies deep in its compounds, which, depending on the species, are made up of alkylamides, polysaccharides, and glycoproteins—all of which contribute to the herb’s immune-boosting powers,” states Traditional Medicinals. Elderberries are full of antioxidants and vitamins and give this tea added immunity boosting properties.
EchinaceaImmune Support
Yogi Tea’s Echinacea Immune Support Tea combines echinacea, black elder berry extract with an array of other beneficial herbs. This blend also contains mullein leaf and lemongrass, which herbalists have traditionally used to support healthy respiratory function, as well as licorice root to sooth the throat. Its rose hips contain vitamin C. Its peppermint and spearmint leaves are mild diaphoretics, and its ginger root is known for aiding digestion and reducing inflammation. This well-rounded tea offers a delicious way to support the immune system.
Immunity
Organic India partnered with Prevention magazine and the Rodale Institute to create three good tasting teas that support wellness. “There are not many teas with the amount of clinical research that we’ve seen on these,” said Organic India CEO Kyle Garner. Among them is Immunity, which contains live probiotic cultures that support the immune system. GanedenBC30 is a clinically researched probiotic strain that survives 10x more effectively than the probiotics in yogurt, according to Organic India. Immunity tea also contains peppermint leaf, and is packed with tulsi: Rama Tulsi Holy Basil, Krishna Tulsi Holy Basil and Vana Tulsi East Indian Basil.
