Celebrate National Chai Day with These Recipes

National Chai Day is September 21, and it celebrates the sweet and spicy beverage made from black tea brewed with water, milk, spices and a sweetener. The spices added to the tea can include cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, star anise, cloves, and nutmeg. 

Here are some interesting facts about chai:

  • Chai originated in India more than 5000 years ago.
  • The word "chai" is Hindi for "tea." 
  • According to Tastewise, 7.65% restaurants offer chai on their menus.

Orange Chai Spice Iced Tea

Ingredients

1/2 oz. Monin Orange Tangerine Syrup

1/4 oz. Monin Chai Tea Concentrate

7 oz. fresh brewed black tea

Garnish: cinnamon stick, orange, mint
 
Directions:
 
  1. Fill serving glass full of ice.
  2. Pour ingredients into serving glass in order listed.
  3. Pour mixture into mixing tin and back into serving glass to mix.
  4. Add garnish and serve.

Chai Dalgona

Ingredients:

1/2 oz. Monin Chai Tea Concentrate

3 oz. milk

Top with:

2 tbsp. ground, dark roast coffee

2 tbsp. sugar

2 tbsp. cold water

Garnish: cinnamon powder, star anise

Directions:

  1. Fill serving glass full of ice.
  2. Pour ingredients into serving glass in order listed.
  3. Stir gently to mix.
  4. Add garnish and serve.
