Freja Louise Kristiansen, a 16-year-old Dane, is officially the world’s record holder for tea bag overwraps.
She dominates the segment with 114 record-breaking advances since she first set the Guinness World Record in June 2018. Her latest count of 1,237 different tea bags spans European, Asian and North American brands, surpassing the previous record by 214. The collection was verified by A.C. Perch’s Thehandel, a local tea shop.
She told CPH Post that “People have been helpful when they have been travelling. For example, my older siblings bought some tea bags from abroad.”
Kristiansen, then 7 years of age, first began collecting in 2010 after seeing her grandmother’s tea cover collection, used in crafting projects. In 2017, when she discovered the record at that time was only 743, she had already packed 650 different tea bags into the travel case that holds her collection. She had tallied 1,023 by June 2018 to set the record and intends to continue.
If you would like to add to her collection, send unopened tea bags sealed in overwraps in care of Freja Louise Kristiansen to: A.C. Perch’s Thehandel, Volden 3, 8000 Aarhus, Jutland, Denmark.
