The Berry Tea Shop, a pioneer in the Australian tea retail space with a decade-long history, launched an equity crowdfunding campaign on the Birchal investing platform.
The Berry Tea Shop is based in Berry, a small Australian village in New South Wales.
Drawing inspiration from the meteoric rise of the craft beer and specialty coffee sectors, the company said it aims to “redefine the tea industry by offering a unique investment opportunity focused on artisanal quality and community engagement.”
Founded in 2010 by Cliff and Paulina Collier, The Berry Tea Shop mixes a blend of traditional tea techniques and innovative practices, and it’s focused on the new era of tea.
The Berry Tea Shop’s retail store and online store sells more than 40 varieties of tea, which are thoughtfully hand-blended and packed in small batches in Australia, so that every tin of tea is as fresh as possible. The business sources its natural and organic ingredients from Australia and around the world to create their own blends, something they’re very proud of.
They also stock a curated collection of teaware from around the globe, including items from Emma Bridgewater, Cristina Re Designs, Kinto, Robert Gordon and many more.
Along with their retail offering, The Berry Tea Shop’s store offers a boutique cafe experience, complete with the full range of signature teas and a delicious selection of homemade cakes, biscuits and scones – all from recipes developed by Cliff Collier.
‘The Next Big Craft Beverage Movement’
“We see the same potential in tea that was once seen in craft beer and specialty coffee,” said Paulina Collier. “This equity crowdfunding campaign is a steppingstone to turn tea into the next big craft beverage movement.”
Cliff Collier added: “Community involvement has been a significant factor in the success of both the craft beer and specialty coffee sectors. We aim to harness that same community spirit as we look to scale and innovate.”
The Berry Tea Shop’s equity crowdfunding campaign notes that it “…offers investors a ground floor opportunity to be part of a sector on the brink of transformation. Just as craft beer and specialty coffee have redefined their respective markets, The Berry Tea Shop aims to do the same for tea, starting with this community-backed investment opportunity.”
Since 2010, The Berry Tea Shop has doubled its revenue to $1.3 million and has been a pioneering force in bringing unique tea blends and experiences to the Australian market.
The company said the crowdfunding campaign is a strategic move to invite community investment for scaling operations and expanding into broader markets, while mirroring the grassroots success of craft beer and specialty coffee.
“The Expression of Interest” round at Birchal opened on Sept. 5, when people were given the opportunity to express their interest in investing and to discover more about the business and the opportunity. On Sept. 26, the “Offer” will go live and investments can be made until Oct. 12 or when the investment limit is reached.
