Yumchaa’s Blue Voodoo Magic is Healthy Tea with a Twist

Move over green tea, there’s a new healthy blend in town and its name is blue. Yumchaa’s Blue Voodoo Magic—touted for its healthy immune-system-boosting ingredients such as goji berries, lemongrass, pomegranate flowers, and curiously, green tea—has proven so popular that the London-based online retailer and café chain has sold out just weeks after the tea’s launch. It’s the blue butterfly pea flowers that give the tea its blue hue, but that’s not the best of it. The centuries-old southeast Asian flower infusion turns bright purple when its hit with a squeeze of lemon.

This magical phenomenon, as well as the tea’s nifty name and Zeitgeist-riding wow factor that’s made it a viral sensation, created such a crush that it quickly outsold Yumchaa’s previous best-seller, its classic-with-a-twist Earl Grey Blue. New customers have to join a waiting list: The company is taking pre-orders on its website, which it expects to fulfill in two to three weeks. At £5.50 for a 60 gram bag, Blue Voodoo Magic can be enjoyed hot or iced, with or without a slice (but why wouldn’t you?). The company is quick to point out that this isn’t strictly a tea, but a herbal infusion that is naturally sweet and naturally color-changing. That it’s taking Instagram and Pinterest by storm isn’t a surprise given this year’s crazy-color food fads, but unlike lurid blue mermaid foods and sugary-sweet unicorn concoctions, Blue Voodoo Magic is actually good for you.
