Two Leaves and a Bud Tea Company based in Basalt, Colorado, won the Colorado Companies to Watch Award. Launched in 2005 by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, Colorado Companies to Watch is a program that awards 50 companies every year that have positively impacted Colorado’s economy in terms of revenue and job growth. So far, 400 companies have been recognized for their marketplace performance or product innovation.

“We are pleased to recognize Two Leaves and a Bud as one of Colorado’s 50 most innovative second-stage companies,” said Rick Ninneman, Colorado Companies to Watch Board chairman in a press release. “These companies contribute significantly to the growth and economic independence of the state.”

Here are three ways in which this tea company stands out.

  • Environmentally and socially conscious from the beginning, Two Leaves and a Bud was founded in 2004 and was among the first few companies in North America to sell organic, fairly traded whole leaf tea in compostable pyramid-shaped sachets.
  • The company continues to produce high-quality teas while innovating and keeping up with beverage industry trends. One such example is its line of “Purpose-Filled Teas,” which consist of “Detox,” “Energize,” “Invigorate” and “Hydrate.” The collection is versatile as teas can be brewed hot or cold. Additionally, the company’s Organic Earl Grey and Organic Detox garnered acclaim at the 2017 Global Tea Championship.
  • The tea company’s reach has extended far beyond its small-town roots in the Roaring Fork Valley of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Its tea can now be found in cafes, grocery stores and specialty shops across the United States and internationally.

“Our headquarters here in Basalt is a small, efficient place where we have quietly been building our business for over a decade,” Two Leaves CEO and Founder Richard Rosenfeld said. “We continue to push the boundaries of our success when it comes to introducing new tea blends, developing a loyal following of tea lovers and remaining an independent, fun-loving company. The recognition for doing so is gratifying.”
