The Kurseong-based garden, founded in 1859 and known for its organic and biodynamic agricultural practices, shipped a consignment to Brazil sufficient to supply tea drinkers through July 13.
“Our marketing partner in England, Hampstead Tea and Coffee Company, is exporting consignments from England to Brazil. Hampstead Tea and Coffee is one of the largest tea selling companies in the world that has several notable names in its clientele,” Rajah Banerjee, the owner of Makaibari Tea Estate told the Hindustan Times.
Teas include Hampstead’s Silver Tips Imperial that sells for $40 for 100 grams. In 2008 Banerjee sent 300 kilos of the tea to Beijing for the Olympics.
