Dunkin' Plans Aggressive Asian Expansion

CANTON, Mass. Dunkin' Donuts announced it will establish several thousand new Asian outlets accelerating its recent expansion into India. The firm currently operates 3,000 of its 9,700 restaurants overseas. FULL STORY. Dunkin' coffee shops in China and Vietnam are expected to open within 18 months in what is developing into a race to establish western beverage brands. An alliance between India's Tata Coffee Ltd. and Starbucks that was unveiled last year was quickly followed by the opening of the first Krispy Kreme Doughnut shops in Thailand. In February Dunkin' Brands Inc., announced a franchise agreement with India's Jubilant FoodWorks to build 500 Dunkin' Donut outlets over the next 15 years, with 30 opening in the next three years. Dunkin's and Starbucks both have a presence in Japan, South Korea and the Philippines. Starbucks this year plans to build 400 coffee shops in mainland China where Dunkin' currently operates 38 stores. FULL STORY
