Lipton Tea Spill Closes Indiana Highway

WTN140526_LiptonTeaSpillA truckload of tea caused serious mayhem on Indiana’s I-70 last week. According to Indiana State Police, two semi-tractor trailer trucks collided while traveling westbound near the exit for State Road 267 in Plainfield. One semi struck a guardrail and subsequently caught on fire and exploded. Reports are that travelers on the roadway left their vehicles and pulled the driver from his burning truck before emergency vehicles arrived. Both lanes of the highway were closed, with the eastbound lanes reopening 45 minutes later. The westbound lanes remained closed for more than five hours. In the course of the accident, the truck not only spilled diesel fuel, but also its cargo of Lipton lemon tea canisters. Images of the accident show dozens of the familiar yellow boxes spread across the asphalt with the dispatcher reporting, “There’s Lipton tea all over the roadway.” The driver was seriously injured, but expected to recover. No one else was injured in the accident. Source: IndyStar Photosfrom Plainfield Fire Territory Facebook page
