Gong cha – one of the fastest growing bubble tea brands with more than 225 locations across 19 U.S. states and in 23 countries worldwide – held a celebration of its 2,000th global store on July 21 in Boston, Mass.
To mark the significant milestone, Gong cha hosted a Global Tea Party that kicked off in New Zealand and traveled all the way to the opening of the 2,000th store in Boston, where Gong cha’s U.S. headquarters is based.
The global event – full of fun and freebies – invited bubble tea enthusiasts from around the globe to join the celebration. As a gesture of appreciation, Gong cha offered a special promotion for the first 100 customers in every store.
With every signature Black Pearl Milk Tea purchased, customers received another one for free. Customers were also encouraged to share their complimentary drink with someone who has not had the opportunity to try bubble tea. The initiative aimed to extend the warmth and camaraderie of the Gong cha community to new bubble tea enthusiasts.
Gong cha also hosted a global social media contest, where guests who shared photos of their experience used the hashtag #GongchaTeaParty were automatically entered to win a year's supply of Gong cha drinks.
A Special Limited-Edition Beverage with a Nod to Boston
At the 2000th store location in Boston, Gong cha served a special limited-edition beverage with a nod to one of the city’s iconic desserts. Boston Cream Pie Bubble Tea was offered during the celebration. In addition, with the purchase of the drink, guests received a free Boston Cream Pie donut from local favorite Union Square Donuts.
Additionally, the 2,000th location gave the first 200 customers a complimentary signature Black Pearl Milk Tea, and the first 20 were served in the viral Gong cha “MEGA mug.”
"We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of Gong cha's 2,000th store with a global tea party,” said Geoff Henry, president of the Americas at Gong cha, just prior to the celebration. “This milestone represents the unwavering support of our loyal customers and the dedication of our hardworking team.”
Gong cha’s 2,000th store is in the Boston area at 412-414 Highland Ave, Somerville, Mass. Founded in Taiwan in 2006, Gong cha means “to offer the best tea to the emperor from all of one’s possessions.” The brand’s menu of innovative tea beverages and bubble teas are made with high-quality tea leaves.
Gong cha was recently ranked No. 1 in the tea category on Entrepreneur’s prestigious Franchise 500 list for the second consecutive year (2023 and 2022); awarded category winner of Top Food & Beverage Franchises in the Global Franchise Awards (2023); and ranked No. 193 on Franchise Times’ Top 500 List of the largest U.S.-based franchise systems by global systemwide sales (2022).
