In January, a video on YouTube about Keemun black tea culture in Qimen County, Huangshan, China, went viral on YouTube, generating some 75,000+ views in a fairly short amount of time.
The beautifully-shot short film comes from the micro-documentary series “Life in Seclusion,” created for Huangshan City, Anhui Province, China, by a blogger named “Nine-tailed Fox Hu Wenjing.”
In “Life in Seclusion – Keemun Black Tea,” the protagonist Wenjing Hu uses a traditional Chinese way of life – customs, settings and costumes – to educate viewers about tea.
‘Queen of Black Tea’
Qimen County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, China, is the birthplace of Keemun black tea, which is also known as the “Queen of Black Tea” and has been a favorite drink of the British royal family.
The new video tells a story about a Chinese girl, Hu, who went to Qimen Huangshan City looking for the best tea as a gift for her father. By narrating the story from her perspective, she learns the process of ancient handmade Keemun tea in Qimen, China.
In recent years, there has been a wave of interest in culture and traditions from China, which Wenjing Hu said she covers and promotes. Hu was born in China and later went to study in the United States, where she has lived and worked for more than 10 years.
Hu integrated her own feelings about Chinese culture into the filming of the recent “Life in Seclusion” video about Keemun black tea, and then condensed the complex content about tea to help educate a global audience in a “beautiful and romantic way,” hoping to gain more understanding and love of Chinese culture and tea.
By collaborating with Hu and other efforts, the Huangshan City, Anhui Province, hopes to bring its local cultural and legacy to an overseas market.
